Today, I am going to try and establish if there is a link between poor skin health and the consumption of aspartame.
So, what is aspartame?
It is an artificial sweetener commonly used in low calorie and diet foods and it has been linked to quite a large number of serious health issues, although opinions are divided depending on whom you listen to.
Some of these health issues include: headaches, dizziness, mood swings, nausea, stomach pains, problems with vision, seizures, fatigue, depression and also problems with skin, such as rashes, hives and itching. This is naming just some of the health problems potentially associated with aspartame.
So there are some skin issues included in the described symptoms, but there is no evidence to suggest that aspartame would cause or worsen eczema or any other skin disorder, as much as cutting aspartame out of your diet on its own will not cure any existing skin conditions.
However, as I always suggest, your best bet is to eat a healthy natural diet consisting of raw, simple ingredients. If you source (buy, gather, grow) , prepare and cook your own food, you will know exactly what you are eating and feeding your family and you can be sure that there are no unnecessary chemicals lurking in your food.
To sum up, my advice is to avoid aspartame not just for the sake of your skin, but your overall health, replace it with wholesome natural food and you will begin to see positive changes in your health.
